Shipwrecked - assemblies

Collecting, tearing and reassembling pieces of canvas, paper, metal and plants scattered around, unfinished works, washed up in boxes or on the floor of my studio, waiting for another life... reconstructing them, giving them another form, a new beginning..., these fragments of so many lost lives scattered in the waters of the Mediterranean.

‘Naufragés’ is a large work that was created during a workshop in Cotonou (Benin) at the artist Ludovic Fadairo's studio in August 2018, on the other side of the ocean, facing the sea, watching the fishermen's canoes. These same canoes, witnesses to crossings to Europe. Nameless faces, deadly crossings, shipwrecks and shipwrecked people.

Reassembling these pieces, weakly attached, stapled together so that they do not sink into the depths of oblivion.
